10 Jan EPSON Partnership with George Brown Fashion Exchange Announced
An exciting new lab at George Brown College’s Fashion Exchange (FX) puts a positive new spin on the term “fast fashion.”
The Leading Innovation in Fashion Technology lab (FX LIFT) officially opened on October 29, 2019 at the Fashion Exchange in Regent Park. This new facility provides our students and industry partners with a suite of technologies that will bring products to market in a faster and more sustainable way—producing designs locally and with less waste.
“We are excited about the potential to transform the fashion industry. Implementation of these new technologies provide local industry with access to equipment to conduct research, to integrate innovation and bring their products to the market faster,” says Marilyn McNeil-Morin, Director, George Brown Fashion Exchange.
The lab includes the following technologies:
- Epson dye sublimation printer for custom textile printing
- Trotec laser cutter capable of cutting and engraving textiles
- ZSK technical embroidery machines designed to embroider circuits for development of wearable electronics or smart textiles, and
- Passen 3D digital fitting booth
New tech will boost applied research capacity
The FX LIFT lab is the first facility of its kind in Canada and its technology suite is part of an applied research recycling program in which industry partners will work with our students and faculty to transform textile waste into new materials.
